The Ferrari F512 M (produced from 1994 to 1996) is incredibly special because it represents the final, most refined evolution of the iconic Testarossa bloodline. It is also highly prized by collectors for its extreme rarity, with only 501 units ever built worldwide. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Its legendary status among Ferraris comes down to a few key factors:
The End of an Era: The 512 M is historically significant as the last Ferrari production car to be powered by a mid-engine, flat-12 cylinder engine.
Serious Performance Upgrades: The "M" stands for Modificata. The 4.9-liter flat-12 engine was heavily upgraded with titanium connecting rods and forged pistons, allowing it to produce 440 horsepower—pushing the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.
Raw, Analog Driving Dynamics: Unlike modern supercars loaded with electronic traction and stability programs, the 512 M offers a pure, mechanical, and unfiltered driving experience, though it did add much-welcomed Bosch ABS.
Unique Styling: It broke from tradition by replacing the classic Testarossa pop-up headlights with fixed headlights, and swapped the iconic rear straked taillights for distinctive circular lamps.
Unmatched Rarity: Just 501 cars were built globally, making it exponentially rarer than the standard Testarossa (over 7,000 made) or the 512 TR (over 2,200 made). Only 75 of these were originally built for the US market.
